Introduction to Golf Swing Connection.....
If you would like to find out a little more about me that wasn't on the Home page then here is the introduction to Golf Swing Connection.
It started with me as a junior growing up in Dallas, Texas. My dad taught me the game and he was a big Jack Nicklaus fan. One of my first books was Golf My Way. I learned the basic fundamentals from that book. I learned how to grip the club correctly, a sound set-up and posture, how to aim my clubface to the target, and how to align my body parallel to the target line. However, I was playing baseball at the same time as I was learning the golf swing. I had that famous Nicklaus flying right elbow and instead of dropping the elbow back down and swinging inside to square and slightly under, I swung the club like a baseball bat around toward left field (out to in). It was that reason that I wasn’t a very good junior player. However, from that book the basic fundamentals that I learned are still with me today and I incorporate those fundamentals into my teaching.
From my junior days up through high school, I read almost every book and magazine I could get my hands on about golf. I tried every single thing I read at some point hoping to find the magic move that would put me on the PGA Tour someday. I tried every type of swing, tip, drill, gimmick, and gadget I could find. That someday never came, but through all the changes and failures I went through, the knowledge I gained about the golf swing has been very valuable to me.
I moved to Savannah, Georgia around 1992. Through my early twenties, I was working and trying to play golf part-time without much success. I was learning the hard way that this game is not part-time. I kept on reading books, magazines, and watching tapes, but still no magic move. My game was slowly improving to the point I could maybe play on one of the mini-golf tours.
I borrowed money and attempted to play professionally on the Hooters Golf Tour. My swing was good enough to hit balls great on the range and play a solid casual round of golf, but under tournament pressure it was a different story. I attempted to play in tournaments on the Hooters Tour for about three years. After having no success, I decided playing golf for a living was not for me but teaching was. Over the years, I’ve compiled a vast knowledge about the golf swing, and through that knowledge, I’ve come up with a way to take proven and solid fundamentals and put them together in a simple, smooth, and powerful motion. I have no doubt that if I’d known and applied this philosophy earlier in my career, you might be seeing me today on the PGA Tour battling Tiger Woods and other great players.
